SRHS Swimming & Diving Team Awarded Ribbons at UIL Qualifier

For the 29th consecutive year, the Sam Rayburn High School Swimming and Diving Team has qualified for the UIL playoff and the Region 6-6A Swimming and Diving Championships to be held in Pearland, Texas on January 31 to February 2, 2019.

  • Brian Stricklan: Boys 1 meter diving 3rd place (qualified for regionals)
  • Andrew Lopez: Boys 100-yard freestyle 5th place (qualified for regionals)
  • Felix Arrelano: Boys b200-yard freestyle 8th place (alternate to regionals)
  • Jesus Mendoza: Boys 500-yard freestyle 8th place (alternate to regionals)
  • Michael Vargas: Boys 100-yard backstroke 8th place (alternate to regionals)
  • Girls 200-yard medley relay: 5th place: Kelly Torres, Elena Garcia, Veronica Vatau, Misty Gonzalez-Perez (qualified for regionals)
  • Girls 200-yard freestyle relay: 5th place: Elena Garcia, Misty Gonzalez-Perez, Kelly Torres, Veronica Vatau (qualified for regionals)
  • Girls 400-yard freestyle relay: 5th place: Veronica Vatau, Elena Garcia, Kelly Torres, Misty Gonzalez-Perez (qualified for regionals)
  • Boys 200-yard medley relay: 4th place: Michael Vargas, Brian Stricklan, Andrew Lopez, Jesus Mendoza (qualified for regionals)
  • Boys 200-yard freestyle relay: 4th place: Michael Vargas, Brian Stricklan, Felix Arrelano, Andrew Lopez (qualified for regionals)
  • Boys 400-yard freestyle relay: 4th place:  Michael Vargas, Felix Arrelano, Jesus Mendoza, Andrew Lopez (qualified for regionals)
  • Head swimming and diving coach Robert Kelly was selected as the District 22-6A Girls Swimming Coach of the Year (by a vote of the coaches).
