HLSR Names Top Young Artists

Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion go to SRHS Students

This is the image for the news article titled Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion go to SRHS StudentsThe Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo recognized 82 talented young artists from across Texas during the School Art Program Awards Ceremony, Sunday, Feb. 17. Among the honorees were the Class Champions and Reserve Class Champions in the following categories: Colored Drawing, Mixed Media, Monochromatic, Painting, and 3D. 

Of the 648 entries into the 2019 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's School Art Program, 72 students from across the Greater Houston area were chosen as winners and will participate in the program's School Art Auction, set for March 10.

Hector Maldonado was named 2019 Grand Champion for his piece "After the Storm Comes a Calm" and Melissa Sosa was named 2019 Reserve Grand Champion for her painting "Wouldn't Change a Thing". 

Joseph Rogers was named Class Champion Colored Drawing, Anthony Vega was named Class Champion Mix Media, and Marco Sosa was named Reserve Class Champion Colored Drawing.

Winning artwork will be on display in the Hayloft Gallery, located in the lobby of NRG Center throughout the duration of the Rodeo.
